Christmas and Recap of 2014

I am going to have my finals soon so I thought I'll just sum up Christmas / my Birthday and this year altogether.

I am officially 20 years old this Christmas. I am not a teen anymore *cries* I remember I used to want to grow up quickly so badly, but now I'm just begging time to slow down.

They didn't tell us that the bigger you get, the more complicated the world seems, and the more responsibilities you will have. Or maybe they did, we just didn't listen.

My birthday celebrations this year was a very simple affair. After staying away from home, the thing I wanted most was just to be at home when I was back. So I just had a very nice home-cooked meal with the family, something I used to take for granted but I treasure it a lot now.

Had a simple date on the actual day itself too. It was nice to be surrounded with people that I love and loves me back, and also familiar surroundings.

Also, let's all take a moment to admire how cute my cake was this year. *cues Frozen songs* It's an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins! It was really delicious :D

2014 hasn't been the smoothest year. There were a lot challenges and a lot really hard times, but I'm glad that with the grace of God and the support from families and friends, I somehow managed to pull through.

Despite all that, there were also many great moments in 2014. Like the time I went for my first ever blogger event, when I bought my new phone with the money I earned through workingmy Taiwan trip, my A Famosa trip, and when I found out I was accepted into University of Malaya.

So I am thankful, for all the good and all the bad. Here's to hoping that 2015 will be an excellent year ahead :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Doi Chaang Coffee by TNT Brothers

This is yet again another long overdue post. Thought I'd better blog about it before Christmas comes and 2014 ends.

Visited this (then) new cafe when I went back to Melaka about 2 months ago with my girls. I think I've said it before but I'll say it again, one thing I really like about cafes is that they put so much effort into their interior designs.

I liked how spacious and comfortable it is, perfect for hanging out. Also they have indoor and outdoor settings, so, yay for non-smokers and smokers!

We had their Iced Doi Chaang, Iced Latte and Ice Mocha

Okay so I'm not a coffee expert, and I don't know if it's just me, but their coffee really didn't taste anything special. Its stated they used like special coffee beans or something, but it kinda tasted just like the coffee my mum makes every morning, you know with the coffee mate and coffee powder, except theirs is just an iced version of it.

The price range is about RM10-RM15 for a cup of coffee, and to me, that wasn't really worth it. The drink on the left however was a treat from the staff / manager (thank you!) there and it's not on the menu, but it tasted a lot better than the one's we ordered.

Anyway, I think if I'm heading to a cafe next time, I won't go for their coffees or teas anymore. It's either I don't know how to appreciate coffee, or their coffee just really is normal coffee. So I think I'll just go for their cakes or desserts and skip the drinks.

Nonetheless, I had a great time with the girls and looking forward to see them again when I go back for Christmas!

Delicate lace

White baby doll lace dress from Vintage Style M  l  Long denim outerwear from Taiwan  l  Silver sandals from Te Chi-Chi (Zalora)   ll   photos by my mum

Taking my head above the waters for a moment before I start drowning in my assignments again. Finals is coming very soon but I still have 2 more assignments undone. Whoever said that Form 6 prepares you for university clearly did not know how being in university is like.

I haven't done an outfit post since forever, so when I went back to Melaka last week, I decided to take some pictures, and here they are.

There's something about white and lace and denim that can never go wrong. I can't remember the last time since I wore a baby doll dress, and I really like this one because of it's intricate lace details. Paired it with a chunky and long denim jacket for volume and to toughen up the look a little.

Oh yeah, speaking of Melaka, I was only away from home for a month plus, and suddenly we have a new shopping mall already. Like. What?! So yeah, all the above pictures were taken there at The Shore. It is still fairly new and not really completed yet. They also shut down the fountain right after I got like 2 pictures there (second pic on top), next time I'll try to take pictures there at night because I know it gets super colourful then. Will be heading there again I think when more shops open.

Not so soon though, got to finish my assignments and hit the books now. *cries*

Larian Gegar Neon 2014

Just got done with my first Residential College project here in UM. It's a running event called Larian Gegar. This year's theme is Neon because it's the first night run that we organized.

We had to be interviewed to be part of the crew for this event. And I must admit I chose the Registration Department because I thought that would be the easiest to do. What can be so hard right? Just tick names only mah...

Manatau...after I got this department, and also got the post as Head of Department, only I knew how tough this department's work actually is. I also had tons of things to learn because I have never ever joined a running event before. Back then I don't even know that there's such thing as "Race Kit Collection" what more know what I'm supposed to do.

I think the hardest part of the job for me is tallying all the proof of payments of the participants. That was really quite tedious work because we had close to 2000 participants. Had to go through 300 emails, sat in front of my laptop for 6 hours just categorizing and labeling all of that also still can't get the job finished.

In addition to that job, there were a lot of other things to do like pack the race kits, handle all 4 of the race kit collection days, have to reply emails from participants, tally number of participants based on categories and t-shirt sizes, handle crew's t-shirts...and others also.

Then almost every day will receive message from our director asking about updates or giving me tasks to do or updating about participants information. It got to the point where when I hear the sound of my phone's whatsapp ringtone or the FB message pop-up tone I also scared to look at my phone because confirm will see our director's face there. haha xD

But thankfully I had 2 committed team members along with me in our department and we managed to get the job done within every deadline that was set.

And I also had to deal with a lot of assignments and presentations during the same period of time. Was quite stressful ah. Really got a taste of what university life is.

During the event day itself, I was at the venue from 10 in the morning and went back around 12 midnight after the event ended.

At first everything was pretty ok, until it started raining just 15 minutes after our event started at 8pm. And it wasn't even slight rain or just a bit drizzling, it was seriously pouring rain. Don't even have any warning signs at all! I remembered I felt 2 big drops of rain then suddenly started raining heavily already. I didn't even bring umbrella because I thought won't be so lucky wan la rain during our event, at most rain before the event only. Again, I was very wong -.-

First male runner to complete 10km run

My job during the event was to stay at the finish line and record the Top 10 runners for the 10km Male Category.

I really admire the fact that majority of the participants still continued running despite the heavy rain. I thought most of them will stop and wait till the rain stops before continuing or just stop running altogether, but almost all of them continued! Very touching leh actually, so we (the crew) also stand in the rain and wait for them to come back while cheering on for them and congratulating them when they arrived.

After math of standing in the rain for 2 hours: very messy hair, very wet clothes, and extremely wet shoes.

Oh yeah, I also enjoyed the flash mob very much! It was so nice! They really put in a lot of effort and still danced despite the rain. Too bad don't have any photos or videos to show, but seriously two big thumbs up for the flash mob!

Then after the event which was when the rain finally stopped -.-  we celebrated Mike's 20th birthday! Glad that our plan worked because we kept trying to find ways to celebrate his birthday when we (including the birthday boy himself) were all so busy.

At the end of the day, I'm really glad to be a part of this event because I learnt SO MUCH from it, and of course the best thing (besides getting a lot of positive feedback from the participants) was...

Being able to work with this bunch of amazing people <3

Congrats to our founder, our director, the crew, volunteers, participants and basically anyone that was part of this event. Looking forward to be a part of the next one ^^

The Daily Fix Café

This is a way overdue post. I can't even remember when I went to this café, that's how long it has been. Haha. I think this café is still fairly new though, probably not even half a year yet? And it's situated at a popular area in Melaka - Jonker Walk.

Since there's too many cafés around, the only way you'll ever attract customers is either through your decorations, or you must have really something special in your menu that other cafés don't normally have, and I think The Daily Fix has both of these qualities.

Can we just all take a moment to admire how beautiful that wall behind me is? They managed to stick on Chinese antique plates onto a worn-out looking wall and made it into art. I love the vintage feel towards it and it is just so Instagram worthy. Haha.

Sadly, didn't take any more pics of their interior, so I got this picture from their Facebook Page. There are non-shaded areas for those cloudy days or for those that wish to sun tan maybe, and also shaded areas for the ones that just don't like the sun, a.k.a me. They have a very cosy setting, although, it does get a little bit hot in the afternoon.

Local Pandan Pancake
Price: RM 9.90
Rate: 8.5/10

Like I mentioned, they have special items in their menu and one of them is their pancakes, especially this one. I don't like anything that has to do with pandan, except Nasi Lemak, but this pancake changed my mind. It is very savoury and the Gula Melaka really adds a good amount of sweetness. I would say this is a must try!

Hot Matcha Latte
Price: RM9.00
Rate: 6/10

Was slightly disappointed with their Matcha Latte though because it lacked in taste. Wasn't rich enough for me. However, they do serve other drinks like coffee and tea.

Only went with my bestie that time, so that's why we only ordered one food item on the menu to try, the pancakes are quite filling. We talked for hours that day. It was a great catch up session with her :D

OOTD: Black long sleeve sheer top from Padini  l  Denim shorts from Brands Outlet (which is now nowhere to be found. wth.)  l  "Key to My Heart" necklace from Ollie Jewellery  l Sandals from Barry (Aeon)

Oh by the way, their staff is very friendly! Had a small chat with the cashier that day and she was very nice to us. :) In case any of you are interested, they are located inside a batik shop called "Next KK", it's the opposite of Jonker 88 (famous cendol shop), just have to walk a little further up to get there. I myself am hoping to revisit this café another time and try out more things on their menu :D

Broccoli Mask?

Can't believe I left my blog un-updated (is this even a word?) for a month! Uni life is really hectic but hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in some time to update my blog more often. Anyways, I'm back with a review! (finally)

Tried a "vegetable mask" before? Neither have I. I have now. Not gonna lie, I was mostly excited to try this mask out because of it's name. The 'Broccoli' part really intrigued me.

This is the Bidanpo Mediental Botanical Garden Broccoli Mask and it is said to be helpful for intensive skin care, which is pretty much what I need right now. Because ain't nobody got time to pamper themselves in uni and it's been awhile since my last facial.

After cleansing my face, I put the mask on for about 15 - 20 minutes. As you can see the mask has nice detailing on it, something I don't see very often in masks, and it was also surprisingly thick. The mask also has a nice smell to it but its not that strong. Good for people with sensitive noses like me.

Then I patted my face gently after removing the mask so that my skin will absorb the remaining essence.

Overall, there isn't really a significant difference that can be captured on camera with the before and after usage of the mask, so instead, I will list down things that I like and things that I don't really fancy about this mask.

Thick and nice detailing
Sticks onto skin well
Nice smell
Gel-like, so no excess liquid will drip down your chin

Very sticky

So yeah, the only thing I don't particularly like was the sticky after effect of the mask. Other than that, I would give this mask a 6/10 rating :)
